Okay friends, A while back I mentioned that we had something extremely special planned for Summer 2012. I have been dieing to tell you all about it, and finally the time has come...tomorrow. I know this is a total tease. I can tell you that we are very excited that all the bands are from the great Midwest. We will be bringing the power of Midwest Rock'n Roll all over the USA. Tune in tomorrow for the official tour announcement.....
Hi friends, I just listened to Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" and was touched by her performance...again. She sang with such depth of emotion and total control of her instrument. While sensitivity fuels great artists such as her, that same sensitivity can also make a person vulnerable. My impression is that Whitney's demons had taken control. I feel so sad for her family, especially her daughter. I can only imagine the pain they are feeling through this tragedy. My hope is that Whitney's untimely passing may inspire others to seek help and fight back.
Epilouge: Well, my weekend had a happy ending indeed...suitcase arrived intact, two sold out shows in Florida, and I got on an early flight so I will be home in time to see my sons' basketball game Sunday afternoon. On the ride to the Orlando Airport, Neal and I were talking about how back in the 70s the people of Florida were the first people outside of the Midwest to really embrace REO. His theory, and it is hard to argue with his logic, is that Florida was the first state outside the Midwest with Steak And Shake restaurants, and since people from the Midwest love both Steak and Shake and REO, it only stands to reason that people in Florida, having been introduced to Steak and Shake, would naturally become REO fans as a result. Wow, that U of I education truly paid off for our keyboard player! rock on, kc ps. The people of upstate NY, Rochester in particular, were also early REO converts from outside the Midwest. We opened for the band Canned Heat in Rochester in 1972 and something clicked. It was like that when we played Florida that year too. I think maybe REO/TWO must have gotten played on the radio in those areas and people were curious to see us in concert. Whatever it was we have felt what we call a Midwest vibe ever since. Wow, that was forty years ago...seems like yesterday to me. Music has the power to capture a moment forever...I love rock'n roll.
Hi friends, so I had a premonition yesterday when I was checking in for my flight to Miami, and considered getting my suitcases insured. I had packed my entire new stage wardrobe, which wasn't exactly inexpensive, but I eventually decided it would be okay, so I let it fly... Well guess what, I am still wearing the same clothes I had on when I left home yesterday, and my luggage is reportedly on the way to Istanbul. Okay, not really, it is supposedly in Atlanta, but it may as well be in freaking Constantinople. My socks are currently walking around my room on their own power, the Delta Airlines issued toothbrush feels like it is made from steel wool, fortunately I don't sweat much so I don't have to worry about perspiration related olfactory issues, (can't speak for those around me;) Ah, the joys of touring! ps. I actually did follow my instinct, and repacked my stage clothes into my carry on bag right there at the Delta check-in counter. Problem is all my personal stuff that I normally keep with me is now in the checked bag. But hey, it's all good. Luggage or no luggage, wandering socks and all, am out here playing music, doing what I love to do. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world!
Hi friends, made a rare Hollywood visit today to do interviews for the upcoming "Rock of Ages" movie. I'll be doing my voice overs soon...I am psyched! This is my first film work since the 70s classic, "FM", in which we played the part of a rock band signing autographs in a record store...quite a stretch. (FYI: a record store was a store that sold nothing but music recordings. Music lovers would gather in anticipation of the newest releases and discuss their favorite bands, in person;) Bumped into my old buddy Gary Cherone, lead singer of Extreme, and a great dude. "Rock of Ages" is being touted as one of the summer blockbusters of 2012. Classic Rock lives on! kc
